LATE: (1870-1901)

·        Middle class prosperity

·        British Empire included Canada, Australia, New Zealand, India and So. Africa

·        Strong belief in the ethics of hard work

·        Social respectability was important to attain

·        Repressive in attitudes toward worldly pleasures

·        1876- Bell’s telephone

·        1877 – Edison’s phonograph

·        1883 – 1st skyscraper in Chicago – was 10 stories high

·        1889 - Eiffel Tower
