bullet

Explain how sounds are produced and identify and describe the parts of the sonic spectrum

bullet

Calculate the speed of sound and relate it to temperature and density of the medium

bullet

Define INTENSITY and state the subjective term associated with it

bullet

Define THRESHOLD OF HEARING and relate it to sound levels that are expressed in decibels

bullet

Explain the DOPPLER EFFECT and know the difference between a bow wave, shock wave and sonic boom

bullet

Define HARMONIC CONTENT,  FUNDAMENTAL FREQUENCY, HARMONICS

bullet

Relate the frequency of a string to its length, tension and thickness

bullet

Define RESONANCE and give examples of it

bullet

Relate beats and echoes to interference and reflection of sound

bullet

Define ELECTROMAGNETIC WAVE,  TRANSVERSE WAVE

bullet

Define POLARIZATION and explain its significance to the nature of light

bullet

Know the electromagnetic spectrum in terms of its members, relative frequencies and wavelengths

bullet

Differentiate between ionizing and non-ionizing forms of radiation

bullet

Know the speed of light and who determined it

bullet

Differentiate between luminous and illuminated bodies

bullet

Define TRANSPARENT, TRANSLUCENT, and OPAQUE

bullet

Know the primary and complementary colors of light and pigments

bullet

Be able to tell the color of an object when illuminated by different colors of light

HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS

bullet   Read chapters fifteen and sixteen.

bullet   These are the homework assignments for the entire chapter.  If you are out, check your notes to see what you are missing and then check these assignments.

bullet   Speed of Sound Worksheet, p.405 #1,4    p.424 #31, 36, 43, 44, 52, 53     p.410 # 13, 15, 16B   p.425 #47
p.438 #7,11,12   p.452 #25, 33, 39, 55     p.452 # 26,28,29     p.447 #18,19,20    p.452 # 35,36,44,49,51

bullet   Lab report due dates vary from class to class.  Check the classroom board for the dates that apply to your section.  If you are absent, just check with me when you return and we will schedule a time for you to make up the lab with the help of a friend that already did the lab and then turn in the report.

Please check the classroom board daily to determine which assignment pertains to a particular day.  Since the pace of the class is decided daily based on the classes' understanding of the material, sometimes the class notes for a particular homework assignment are not gotten to. Therefore, the homework must be amended.

QUIZ AND TEST ANNOUNCEMENTS

bullet

Physics One and Two will have a quiz on sound on Monday, April 11th.

The dates here may be amended due to unforeseen circumstances, so please check the classroom board daily for the most accurate information.
