TESTS are announced at least one week in advance. Any multiple choice question will only have one answer. The open ended (part two) section of the test comes from your homework and class work assignments.
In order to obtain full credit for open ended math problems on tests you must show work for all calculations. Showing work includes a list of the givens, the equation with no numbers, the equation with numbers, an answer with an appropriate unit. The date of the test will be written on the classroom board.
The date of the test will also be posted on the website but the classroom board is the FINAL SAY! Tests are worth 100 points.
Remember that productive studying for hours does NOT always result in a
high grade. Rather, it guarantees a grade higher than it would have been without
LAB REPORTS need to be turned in on their due date. Failure to do so will result in a loss of ten percent of the grade each day it is not turned in. Due dates will only be written on the classroom board.
Lab reports are generally worth 30 points. NEATNESS COUNTS!!
A link to the detailed format of lab reports is found on the index page of this website. I will not being giving you this format orally or in a handout.
BE SURE TO READ THE INFORMATION GIVEN IN THE LINK TO THE FORMAT OF LAB REPORTS. FAILURE TO DO SO WILL RESULT IN POOR LAB GRADES.
CLASS PARTICIPATION includes classroom behavior, preparedness for class, having homework assignments on a regular basis (even though they are not formally checked), lab behavior and promptness and attentiveness during class. It is worth 40 points each quarter.
VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION
BE ON TIME FOR LAB CLASSES. REMEMBER THAT ON LAB DAYS, YOUR LUNCH PERIOD IS SHORTENED.
When you are absent on a lab day, you need to recruit another student from the class who has already performed the lab to show you the lab procedures. it may be done during the school day (your lunch or study) or after. Due to my heavy schedule, I am not available during the school day to help with missed labs nor after school due to extra help sessions.
Be aware that make up tests and quizzes are frequently in essay form. if you are absent for either, be sure to see me the day you return to class to schedule a makeup date. failure to do so will result in a loss of points on your makeup grade.
Being absent from one class prior to the test or quiz DOES NOT exempt you from taking that test or quiz on the scheduled day.
I welcome you to come for extra help Monday through Thursday generally from 2:00 to 3:00 pm.
the only time i will accept an email is if you are going to be absent for an extended period of time. therefore, emailing me for any other reason is a waste of your time. all communication between you and me is to be done face to face!
under no circumstances do I accept emailed assignments of any kind. it is your responsibility to turn them in to me personally. if you absent the day they are due, just turn it in the first day you return to class with no loss of points (if absence is legit).
parents may use emails as a form of communication. be aware, however, that i do not check my emails everyday so there may be a delay in a response. the phone is a more timely form of communication for me.
